Summer Wedding Season
Summer is a popular season for weddings thanks to the warm weather, long days, lush greenery, and in-bloom flowers. While autumn and winter weddings pair beautifully with darker, earthy palettes, summer is versatile when it comes to colors that look great for the season.
With so many options and with Pinterest being such an expansive source of inspiration, you may be feeling lost when it comes to deciding upon a color palette that will bring your wedding style together. You’ll want a palette that compliments the venue you’ve chosen and also one that you’re personally in love with.
Picking a color palette – the basics:
When it comes to picking your wedding palette, you’ll want to start with picking a base color first- the color that you want to be used predominantly throughout your wedding. It can be anything from emerald green, to bright red, to soft sand, but it should always be a color that you absolutely love!
Once you have your base color, you can start picking two or three accent colors. These colors will round out your color palette and add dimension. Accent colors can be contrasting hues on the color wheel or neutral tones…or both!
Today, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite summer wedding color palettes I’ve come across as a wedding photographer.

Baby Blue, Sand Dollar, Blue Grotto, Cognac
Shades of blue are one of the most classic wedding colors and one of the easiest color trends adapt to any environment. I want to highlight the base color here (baby blue) because it is such a great color on any skin tone.

Mustard, Chestnut, Sage, Ivory
When I see these colors together, I immediately think natural, earthy, and Tuscan! This color palette would look amazing for a garden wedding, pair well with bohemian décor, or even give off a classically elegant flair. The energetic pop of yellow makes a great statement color paired with this warmer, more neutral palette.

Dove, Dusty Blue, Dusty Rose, Blush
This color combo is both feminine and breezy. These colors are soft but still make a statement and pair so wonderfully with a beach wedding or a venue by the sea. The rose and blush also add a touch of warmth, keeping it airy and summery against the blue-gray tones.

Brown, Carafe, Sand Dollar, White
These colors are all neutral shades which means they are always stylish and appropriate! You may be thinking, “brown as a statement color – really?!” BUT, hear me out, warm brown and tan hues are complimentary to all skin tones and pair nicely with rustic venues, outdoor venues, vintage styles, ceremonies in the woods, elopements, and even industrial venues.
Palette from Joshua Tree, California elopement
Rose Quartz, Sand Dollar, Sage, Brown
This color palette is one of my favorites! The pink hue adds so much romance to the other neutral shades and is a perfect complementary color to the sage green. It’s warm and full of life and just boast summer vibes! This palette would be great at a French estate for a luxury wedding or for an intimate wedding in the mountains.

Amber, Burnt Orange, Lilac, Plum
Think red rocks, golden sunsets, and Utah’s natural beauty as your wedding venue. This palette is fun, bold, and full of personality. I threw this one on the list to remind you that your wedding color palette can be ANYTHING you want. Just because you haven’t seen it done before, doesn’t mean it’s not an option. This palette is also a great example of pairing complementary colors on the color wheel. Check out how these colors compliment the blush tone of her wedding dress and are also accented in her bridal bouquet.

Olive, Fern, Eggshell, Beige
This color palette would be wonderful for an eco-wedding that incorporates the colors of the surrounding forest environment. The neutral tones added make this palette approachable and easy to incorporate for suit color, décor, ties, bridesmaid dresses, etc.
Palette from Upstate New York rustic wedding
Red, Eggshell, Cognac, Wine
This wedding color palette is rich and elegant while also being bold and a bit edgy. This palette was from an eclectic wedding held in a renovated industrial venue called Brake & Clutch Warehouse in an artsy part of Dallas, TX, but it would also be great in a winery, a barn, or even a ballroom.
