Grits Rule.
That’s what you’ll read along the banner of Ellen’s Restaurant here in Dallas. If that doesn’t say welcome to the south, then I don’t know what does!
Being from New England, things like “grits” aren’t really in my vocabulary so it was a new territory working with Ellen’s Restaurant and all its southern flair last week. The Ellen’s team sources and combines their ingredients in incredibly thoughtful ways to make absolutely delicious dishes with a southern twist. Let me tell ya, there’s a reason they’re voted best brunch restaurant and best breakfast restaurant in Dallas again and again.
I had the privilege of working with them to photograph a few of their specialty drinks and most popular dishes, just before the big OU vs Texas weekend. (For you non-Texas folks, there is some kind of ongoing rivalry between the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns college football teams, and it’s a BIG DEAL. I’m talking Red Sox versus Yankees kind of big deal. You can check out the recap of the game here).
Despite the impending excitement and chaos of the OU/Texas weekend, the Ellen’s team worked patiently with me to prepare all of the beautiful drinks and dishes you’ll see in the gallery below. If you are visiting the Dallas area and are looking for great southern cooking in a family-oriented atmosphere, Ellen’s is a must-try.
Hope “y’all” love the gallery! You can check out their full menu and story at gritsrule.com.
